Voters in three more states have said “Yes” to sports betting in their state during the 2020 election. Maryland, Louisiana and South Dakota had prop measures on the ballot to allow land based and/or online sports betting and all three were approved. It will still take further action from each state at the state legislation level before residents can start to bet at regulated sportsbooks, but it is expected for this to take place sometime in 2021.
We feel this is important for two reasons. First it shows many Americans want the ability to bet on sports and play casino games online. This year only three states offered a prop measure asking their residents to vote on whether to allow sports betting and in all three cases voters approved the measure. Secondly, with these three states now on the verge of offering state regulated sports betting, it brings the total number of states to 21 which is over 40% of the states. We hope the majority of the remaining states are watching and offer their residents the opportunity to vote on what they want.
